Spending time with my wife and daughter is one of the most important things for me after my faith and yesterday was another moment that I just have to write about. You see the time I get to spend with my family, doing “family stuff” is so precious to me. It’s truly why I have been led to continue to work Part-Time on becoming a full-time Network Marketer, Blogger, speaker and writer. I whole-hardheartedly think that you must live your passion, and that’s what GOD puts on your heart to do. So I beg to ask the question, Which way does your tree fall?
Yesterday we had set out to get my passport updated and get my daughters passport renewed for our trip back to the Bahamas this year, but we had a turn in events. When we made it to the passport office they told us that we needed to make an appointment. So we decided we will not be defeated and we called another three or four locations only to be told the same thing. At this point I could see my family becoming very deflated so I decided to cheer our spirits to catching a movie. You know sometimes God works in mysterious ways and we just have to follow along.
So I took us all to the movie and I knew my daughter always wanted to see the Lorax movie because she had already memorized some of the movie from the clips on television, Seriously? When did that happen? However, I bought the tickets and we were off to see the movie. Little did I know that I would learn a life lesson from the movie.
In the movie the Once-ler was a young man who had a dream and a vision to really make something out of himself. His family would laugh at his inventions and his aspirations to be great one day. So he decided that he had to move away in order to find the great invention that would make him famous. So he set off looking for that special something. Along his journey he found some a land filled with Truffla’ trees and it hit him that he needed to make garments out of these trees. However, the only way that he could make them was to Chop down a tree. Now these trees were apart of the land where all the animals that lived there were apart of.
The land and Trees were protected by the Lorax because they were so important to the land. He knew that the Onceler had dreams and what he wanted to do, but advised him against chopping down the trees for his dream. Nevertheless he went against the Lorax’s advice and began to chop down the trees. The Onceler abandoned the way he was harvesting the trees by picking one leaf at a time because it was too slow and he figured it would take him a long time to harvest the material that he needed. So he decided to chop the trees down instead.
The Lorax asked him if this was really what he wanted to do and that he should decide which way his tree would fall. There were some very valuable lessons learned from this movie and I want to share three of them with you as Leaders.
- Don’t lose sight and fall into Greed – The onceler got Greedy when he saw the amount of money he could make going after his project. He ignored the signs of what it would to do the land and to the animals living there. Is what you are going after all because of Money or is it to Glorify God? I think you should ask yourself that question over and over again in your daily tasks.
- Make wise decisions and Plan – You must always have a Master plan when you have a grand vision. If the Onceler had listened to the Lorax and took a look at what he was doing to the animals that eventually had to leave because all the trees were gone, he would have come up with a plan that worked for everyone involved. He would not have let others deviate him from the master plan that could have helped so many people and also keep the Forrest in tact.
- Don’t allow others to dictate your fate – You should not allow others to take you away from the goal that you had set for yourself. You must make sure that you can stand fast to what you set out to do. However, I will preface that in the next point. If you have a plan, don’t deviate from your plan as long as it’s on God’s will.
- Heed Warning signs – Sometimes however you should stop and pray. Ask for Guidance on the path you have chosen for your business career. I know we all want to succeed and be the greatest and help others succeed and also make some money to support our dream and our families. There will be warning signs along the way that you may need to take heed to. You may want to stop, and re-evaluate where and how you are moving. Then decide on a new course of action, or how to proceed at a more slow pace.
Question: Which way is your tree leaning? Are you evaluating your business?
