Zombies in Corporate America?

Lincoln Parks Network Marketing - Zombies At Work

When I first saw Zombies at work

Corporate America helped me, and it changed me for the better, however I didn’t let it define me. You ask me what my deal is and I will tell you that I am Passionate about taking people from Darkness to light. I remember the day very clearly when I saw zombies for the first at work and I was afraid that it would happen to me. In my Emergent Leader series (book) that I am writing via my blog and I going to outline how I was able to go from Darkness to light not only through experiencing God’s love for me but in finally realizing the message God wanted me to get across to so many.

Now I don’t want you to think that because I am not in Corporate America any longer that I am bashing it, not in the least. I just feel like more people need to have the scales removed from their eyes because they are living passionless lives. We wake up, and go through the same motions daily and don’t even realize that 20 years have passed of you sitting in traffic and responding to the same emails and having to deal with that Bad Boss because you got comfortable, I had to realize that God had more for me to do.

My Job is to make sure that you don’t live a comfortable life, but you live one filled with Passion for what you do. Not everyone can be an Entrepreneur, and it would not be a good thing if everyone were. Corporate America taught me many lessons, but I saw Zombies and I was falling into the same trap.

What is the meaning of the Corporate America zombie?  And what did I see that day?

I saw people living passionless lives by doing daily ritual of walking into the work halls with no expression on their faces. Nobody even realized how they looked, or acted. Can you identify with any of these symptoms?

  1. Hit the snooze on the alarm 3 or 4 times
  2. Drag yourself out of bed, all the while dreading to go into work
  3. Getting to the office just in time before your boss arrives
  4. Walking into the office with a blank look on your face
  5. Sitting at your PC not really doing any work, just day dreaming
  6. The meetings you attend really have no more meaning for you
  7. You go to work only to get to the Gym and workout.
  8. You can’t wait to get to work for lunch time.
  9. You can’t wait until the clock hits 4:59 so you can leave.
  10. You hate it when your boss stays late, and ruins you being able to slip out early

If you can identify with any of these things above you are becoming a Zombie. God did not put you on this earth to live Passionless, he put you here to Live life to the fullest and to change lives. Last year, to be honest I was there, God wanted more for me, and I wanted more for myself. I just continuously pray to God that he does not send me back, we have too much work to do, and so many lives to change.

I saw zombies that day when I walked into the office. I was afraid, I was becoming just like that. Live the normal life, that everyone expects with no risk and no reward, just enough to get by.

Question: What are you most passionate about? Are you doing it?

I’m one of the blessed who got out early. As a manager for a big firm as a very young man, I made a pact with myself; If the owner, who was a fair but hard man, ever talked to me the way he talked to other people, I’d quit.

It was the hardest thing for me to do when that inevitable day came years into my well paying and comfortable job. Now that you got me thinking about it, I remember once I did it, it was the most freeing soul lifting experience of my life. I’d forgotten who I was. God made me an independent person with the need to create and move at my speed.

I’ve had some severe tribulation in business since then, but I have no regrets and am doing what I feel I’m supposed to do and what I’m passionate about.

Thanks for the reminder, Lincoln. I need to write about that event. That’s a big thing. Can’t believe I let the details slip away…

Can’t wait for you to share those details Floyd. I am embarking on where God is leading and what he wants me to tell. People always tell me that I am a preacher but don’t know it. I say better as a Teacher and speaker. I want so many people to live passionate lives and not lives that are mundane and boring. God did not create that for us to be that way.

Great post Lincoln. I am trying to exit the zombie world. I checked about 7 of the items on the list.

The great thing Bernard is that I already know what great things you are doing. I can’t wait to see more from you. Just don’t let them pull you in. Keep plugging away..

The more and more I consider that this life is my only chance to impact eternity – then the more I stay away from being a zombie.

    • http://www.lincolnparks.com/ Lincoln Parks

I love that Loren. This is the only life we have, and God made it for us to impact others. We can do that on the Job also, but specifically for me I knew it was not there. Seems like its the same for you.

The more I work to serve other people – and CREATE something myself, the more I keep from being a ZOMBIE. I am in the corporate world, but fortunate to love what I do and am passionate about it (hey…maybe I’m that BAD BOSS).

Hope you didn’t think I meant too much bad about Corporate America. This was meant for the unsatisfied with their passion. If you love what you do and it is your passion then that is awesome. If God has you changing lives there and leaving an example that is what I am talking about. Why do you say you may be the Bad Boss? Its only about 7 or 8 of them in the world :-)
