Looking at this title I know many people would be thinking living in the Actual “Projects“. Coming from the Bahamas I truly don’t know what project living is all about, so I could never claim to be from the “Projects” nor do I think I would want to. I truly hope that does not offend anyone, as it was not meant to be that way. However, we as Leaders and Entrepreneurs do live in the projects and here is how we get out.
I heard this term “Get yourself out of the Projects” on a podcast that I was listening to the other day and I knew that I had to write something about it. The projects that I am referring to are those tasks that you set out to do but you can never get them accomplished. You have a long laundry list of items that you need to get done on a daily basis, however you just can’t get them out of your way.
I know for me, I list out my daily tasks on what I have to do, and list the most important Projects at the top of that list. It may be working on a chapter for my book, writing my blog, connecting with others, calling prospects for business, helping new Leaders emerge. Whatever it may be I usually list it all out so that I can determine what priority I need to handle a task in.
- Create a tracking sheet – As you know I use Evernote to keep track of just about everything that I do. So in Evernote I have a tracking sheet that i use to make a list of the important items or projects that I want to complete the next day. I add every item to that tracking document and prioritize those tasks.
- Create an automated system – For the tasks that can be automated by online systems I do this Automatically. For my Network Marketing business I am always looking for Leaders to partner with that are looking for ways to earn extra income, and I have two systems that I use. One is MLSP. This system helps me to attract new partners online and it follows up automatically with them and gives them the training and support they need to be successful in their business. The next is how I weed people out of my business automatically by them answering a survey to see if they fit the criteria of person I want to work with. These automated systems help to free up my time so that I can do coaching, training, and teaching.
- Text Message reminders (Accountability) – I didn’t set this up but an accountability partner of mine set this up for me because she saw how much I procrastinated on tasks. So with our Text Alertz service that we can offer via our business, she set up daily accountability text messages that reads, “Do something today, get up off the nail and talk so someone. Get those projects done“. This is a daily reminder for me to make sure that I get something done.
Procrastination is one of the biggest reasons why most people don’t, can’t, and won’t get out of the Projects. They will continue to pile up new projects and things they want to accomplish without really doing anything about it. The easiest thing for people to do it talk about what they are going to do but they never actually do anything all the while the Projects are piling up sky-high.
Question: What are you doing to get out of the Projects?
