Letting go as a Leader

You know I struggled as a Leader in my Business because you want to continue to grow other Leaders but it’s so hard to let go. You want to grow and nurture new fresh Leaders, but you still want to have control. I learned that in order to Lead effectively you need to lead by example and also allow other Leaders to rise up and Lead their own organizations. But how exactly is the best way to let go?

Seeing as in our Industry of Network Marketing, it’s all about growing other Leaders so that they can lead themselves but all on one accord as a team its critical that you learn how to let go. Now I don’t mean that you get someone started with you and you leave them out to the wolves, no I mean this is where you will have to gradually allow other Leaders to emerge and Lead their own territory (their team) in congruence with the team vision and philosophy.

This topic of Emerging Leaders is one that you will hear more about from me in the next few weeks, but I learned in all my years in Corporate America that some people Lead and some people don’t allow others to Lead. It was difficult for me to hold my passion back do what God truly put me on this earth to do and that was to Inspire others through my life and through my transparency. Some people would not want to be as transparent as I am, and I think through my transparency it clashed with the Corporate Culture so something had to give, I learned that in all my experience that letting go is the hardest leap of faith you need to make. So here are 4 things you should not hold on to;

  1. Don’t hold on to the same old principles of the past
  2. Don’t hold other Emerging Leaders back
  3. Don’t hold onto knowledge that your team needs. Share it already!
  4. Don’t hold back what your passionate about.

Question: What are you holding onto that you should Let go as a Leader?

I remember jumping out of swings- it was fun then. Don’t think I could do it now :)

I like that you mentioned we shouldn’t hold other leaders back. I see some leaders being intimidated by those beneath them who are up and coming leaders. It’s sad.

TC, I fell so many times it was hilarious. We had so much fun together and just the memories created. Then I got to thinking of why I kept holding onto the swing and not letting go. It was a valuable lesson for me.

Yes some people hold other Leaders down and don’t want them to flourish. I agree, its time to let them fly.

It’s amazing how God can use ordinary events in our lives to teach us- we simply have to be open to listening and learning.
Thanks for being open to the Voice of God!

Good post. I have learned that if you don’t let go of some control, you will frustrate and burn yourself out. You can’t do it all as much we think we can. I believe if God has put you in a place of leadership He will keep you their until your season is over. We need to train leaders and allow them to excel. It will defined you as a better leader.

Amen Bernard.. I learned this the hard way in making sure that I let other leaders lead and then let them grow their teams successfully. It makes me proud to see how God has humbled me to allow others to Lead and be successful. It helps in growing a successful organization.

Lincoln, to be honest I used to be one of those that held back others instead of allowing them to lead or break to new levels. I now know better but back then, it had to do with ego (wanting to be control), misplaced sense protection (thinking people are not ready/able). I now know that when you do your best to equip people, trust them and walk with them, they accomplish the incredible and become unstoppable.

I think we all experienced it at some point and some of us still do. Its all a learning experience and just maturing in our Leadership. I have been there and still fall into the trap from time to time. However, as long as we know. Its all about growth from that point forward. Thank you so much for sharing your story..How did you overcome it?

        God grew me up :)

His spirit convicted me and showed me the ‘whys’ behind my actions and attitudes. He helped me learn and grow. Still learning and growing :)

I agree with you, we all go through this as we grow and mature in leadership.
