3 apps Entrepreneurs can use to replace the Rolodex

A Rolodex is still around?

Seriously, A Rolodex? I can’t remember the last time I actually saw a Rolodex and someone was using it. A few weeks ago I was sitting in a Chamber of Commerce meeting and we started speaking about everyone’s contacts and the word Rolodex was mentioned. Now, when you think of Rolodex, are you thinking about a digital Rolodex or something physical? I was thinking about 3 tools I am going to share with you not an actual Rolodex.

Well after the meeting our Chamber president Mr. David Gill actually went to his office and retrieved his Rolodex that he still uses. I was so shocked that I had to take a picture of it so that I could share it and write about it. I honestly could not believe that someone still used a physical Rolodex. Well, I want to share with you a few tools that you can use as an Entrepreneur or aspiring Entrepreneur to go digital instead of manual labor like our President.

Rolodex Killers

CardMunch

CardMunch Application

So you go to a Networking event and the first thing that people pull out are their business cards. Do you have a stack of business cards on your desk like I do? Do you ever follow-up with those individuals Ever? Probably not because most of the cards I used to get just stacked up on my desk. They looked really pretty but I did nothing with them. In comes CardMunch. With this great application it allows you to scan that Business card and have it automatically entered into a digital database within the app. Not only does it enter the card into your digital Rolodex, but it also looks at their email address from the card and tries to find their LinkedIn profile. Now isn’t that really cool?

Evernote

Evernote

Evernote is an application that I first learned about by Michael Hyatt. After I learned how I can take all of my notes in this application, recorded audio,  I installed it on all my devices. My laptop, iPhone and Ipad and they actually sync up together so that I can have my notes with me everywhere I go. It’s Amazing how Applications are taking the place of the analog tools. I also recommend the (Evernote Essentials) PDF to help you learn how you can automate so much of what you do. It’s a great productivity application.

The Rolodex App

The Rolodex App

Now if you are really loving your Rolodex but want to take it digital and you have an iPhone then this is the application for you. You can import your contacts into the application for easy access. There is also a Map feature that you can use that allows you to see where people are in your contact list. This app is only $1.99 in the appstore so it’s not going to break the bank either.

Question: What apps are you using that help you save both time and money?

Automation is key for the Entrepreneur.

Oh man… I’m a dinosaur! I don’t know how many numbers I have in my head, but I have zero on my phone. The numbers I need I have upstairs… and the other ones I have my office keep… How’s that for lazy! I’m gonna have to catch up one of these days…

Don’t you worry at all Floyd. I can give you a crash course whenever you are ready. You are going to need a backup of your head just for safe measure. But I know your system has worked for years, just wanted to shed some light on some technology.

I actually don’t like Evernote. I’ve seen so many good things about it but just don’t like it. I guess I’m old school, I use my notes app on my iPhone and the calendar app and that’s what works for me.

Sounds really effective Kimanzi. I know Evernote is not for everyone, but after I bought Evernote essentials and it went over all it could do. I was sold. I like it because it can sync to my multiple devices.

Thanks for the tips. I keep meaning to try Evernote, I think it would be very helpful, but I haven’t put it into use.
My spouse likes using all sorts of various apps on his phone, I use mine basically just for calling/texting. Though I have learned to use it for sending short emails.
Technology is challenging to me and it frustrates me to learn it, so I usually just stay away from it.

Try it TC, it may surprise you seriously.

Great info. I still have a rolodex on my desk at work. I use a lot of modern technology, but I need something old school.

I know Bernard. Some of us would rather just use paper and pen. Its totally understandable. And I do use it in some instances also.
