Can I be an Entrepreneur and Love God?

Entrepreneurship and Love God

How can I make money and Love God?

Over the past few weeks my LinkedIn and Facebook inbox has been loaded with a few questions from aspiring Entrepreneurs on how they can make money online and Love God at the same time. They heard from other people who going into Entrepreneurship means you are selfish and you are only looking to make money off of people and that they should not do that. (Seriously?).. With so much floating around and me Loving the Lord like I do, I decided to start a Youversion Business study and I wanted to share some of it with you.

When you love God with all your heart and you use your God-given talents for his glory what are you feeling bad about. Many new Entrepreneurs get confused or would rather not rock the boat when it comes to expressing their faith though their Business. I am not going to fall prey to people who do not believe what I believe, and attempt to make us feel bad about going into Business for ourselves so that we can help countless others.

In my research I stumbled on a Youversion study plan by Francis Kong, a speaker, teacher, leader and Coach. I had never heard of him before so I did some research on him via his website. He is a really great Christian Business Leader and I wanted to share some of his Youversion study plan with you. Here is why you should not feel guilty when wanting to make money and Love God.

  1. God has given you talents that you need to use. It would be selfish to keep them to yourself.
  2. Work is sacred and God ordained it from the beginning.
  3. When you show excellence and righteousness in your field, you become a testimony.

Question: Do you think its easy to be a Religious/Christian Entrepreneur in Business?

I don’t think it’s easy but it’s an opportunity to be a testimony. At the end of the day it’s our responsibility to provide and it takes money. You can still make money and love God.

    • Lincoln Parks

I agree Kimanzi, its not. And yes we all have to be a testimony. We have to toil the land and use our talents, but we must not get lost in why we do what we do, yes to provide and to Glorify God. So with that being said, you are 1000% accurate. Its Hard..

It’s not easy Lincoln, but it’s possible and so needed. We have a whole world to reach and impact and honestly i think the bulk of resources for that comes from businessmen and women and entrepreneurs.

God says that its hard for the Rich to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. What is Rich nowadays? I heard that if you make over $40K you are considered rich. Can we even put a dollar amount on that? The top 1% of individuals are what run the country and the others participate in it. My mission is to create more God Centric Entrepreneurs that are looking at their bottom line and looking out for others that can’t or don’t know how. Thanks so much for sharing Ngina, its very important to me.

I believe it is easy to be a Christian entrepreneur. It’s nothing more than being honest and keeping our word. Once people know we’re people that can be trusted it only drives business to us. The most generous people I know are the ones that our Father has blessed abundantly. “To whom much is given much is required.” Good post, Lincoln.

    • Lincoln Parks

Love it Floyd.. Trust is a BIG word in all of this. I know for a fact that trust breaks down all walls. With integrity and trust you most definitely won’t go wrong. Much is required for those given much. Thank you Sir for sharing this.

I think the two are quite compatible, and I believe God is quite glorified by his people who engage well in entrepreneurship. Some books that are great to read on this are “Business by the Book” by Larry Burkett and “Business for the Glory of God” by Wayne Grudem.

    • Lincoln Parks

Thanks Loren, I am going to add both books to my library because I believe in soaking up all the information that God has put there for our understanding.

    • Lincoln Parks

I am going to read those Books Loren. I do believe that it can be done as long as your priority is on his glory.

    Great post, Lincoln.
Glad you’re helping people understand how it is possible to serve God, be an entrepreneur and be successful.
Having integrity, being who we are in Christ, makes businesses more successful.
When people can trust you, they want to do business with you, they also will refer you to others.
People don’t have to pick success or God. They can have both. HOWEVER, this world is full of evil and being a light in the darkness does not always make us popular. There are people who will dislike you just because you are Christian.
God says in 2 Cor we are His fragrance. Some are attracted to that fragrance (even if they aren’t a Christian) and some are repealed by it. We can’t let people who are repealed by our smell discourage us.
In every decision we make should be centered on who we are in Christ. That’s easier said than done, but it should be our “go to” source for how we handle situations.

Thanks for these words TC because it means allot. It is discouraging when people don’t and won’t believe what we believe but I know we should not dwell on it but plant our seed and keep moving. Yes its easy to say than to do but we are not leaning on our own understanding. Thank you for being such a great friend.

Thanks, Lincoln. God is working in you and through you. I can see your growth in Him. Keep moving forward and shining His light. God bless.

  • Dan Black

God has given us different gifts and talents, He calls us to be a steward of what He has given us. I think it becomes easier to be a Christian entrepreneur when we take ownership of what God has given us. Great word!

    • Lincoln Parks

That word is critical Dan and that is ownership. When we take ownership of what he has given us. Thank you so much for sharing that message. It means so much to hear that.

  • Mark Insight

I think the real question is when you start a business, do you do this because you love it, or because you see potential to make a lot of money?

Sometimes the desire for money (greed) can start to corrupt your business ways even if they were pure to begin with.

    Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

    • Lincoln Parks

Right on point Mark. When we start Businesses it has to be for the Glory of God. Everything that you do needs to be for his honor and glory. Love that scripture in Matthew, its a great one. Thanks so much for sharing that insight.
