Bigger than life itself

Bigger than Life, Solar Eclipse

Bigger than Life, Solar Eclipse

Do you know any person, place or thing that sometimes appears or acts as if they/it are Bigger than life itself? Does that not get on your nerve, if not for you then it does for me. I know being in the Profession that I am in anyone can enter into this industry because of its low-cost of entry, but not everyone is skilled to be a Professional, then some people always know all the answers to EVERYTHING..

Don’t get me wrong this does not only happen in this industry because when I was in Corporate America there was a guy, (And I think all companies has one of these guys) that know it all. Did God design them this way and am I just misunderstanding their personality? That definitely could be a possibility but we always have to be on guard and seek guidance where you can. For me this Bigger than life issue was a Person that gave me grief just about everyday when I walked through the doors off the office. Well, there was only a few times he didn’t and that when he was on Vacation.

Seriously, I can’t tell you how happy I am to not have someone tell me when to go to lunch break, when I can take off to see my daughters school recital  or that I don’t have enough vacation days. Urghhh, that truly got under my skin and for more than 13 years, I worked in many environments where the know-it-all’s got all the credit and the people who did their work, but did not speak much got punished and overlooked and these people appeared to be Bigger than life itself.

On the flip side of that coin, being an Entrepreneur means that you are solely reliable for the income that you generate on a daily basis. If you don’t generate any you don’t eat. Most would rather stay comfortable and remain in the mess instead of improving their skills and getting out of their comfort zone. Here is what I did to make drastic change so that my situation was not Bigger than life.

  1. Drop down on my knees and prayed – Without prayer you are wishing and hoping on a star for answers to questions that you can’t answer alone.
  2. Made an Exit strategy – I was not necessarily happy with working for someone else so I created a plan to exit, and executed it day by day.
  3. Forgave that person internally – This was the hardest thing to do and that is Forgive. I thought it would be easier being a Christian, but it was not and I struggle with giving forgiveness but I eventually do.

Question: Have you had/have any Bigger than life situations? How are you handling them?

I think God puts those “sandpaper” people in our lives to grow us. I’m with you. My blood boils when I’m around those type of people. “Blow hards” is what I like to call them. Thank God for them! It teaches us how to control ourselves so that we don’t come across as them and they help motivate us to change our world with His gift of free will!

Freedom is different to different people, but it is the same to you and me, brother!

You are right Floyd, they are put in our lives for reasons and lessons we have to learn. You are also right on when you say Freedom is different for different people, that means allot and I think you made me learn a Big lesson by just saying that. Thanks so much for that..

I work with a couple of people that think they know everything about everything. It gets on my nerves. They are so smart, but they constantly make dumb decisions because they don’t ask for others input. I am making strides right now to work my exit strategy so that I will have the freedoms you mentioned. This was a very inspiring post. Keep doing a great work.

I had to realize that those people with those attitudes to exist and I had to learn how to deal with them accordingly. It really fueled me to continue working on my exit strategy. It can get boring and life will get in the way. We just have to set daily goals to get closer to execution. It was not easy Bernard, but as you know it is more than worth it.

I’m self-employed, and one of the benefits of that situation is now having to worry about office politics like this. Sure, I have my own struggles but this is one I don’t miss. I listen to friends talk about politics and I’m just astounded the things that happen out there sometimes.

Loren you are so right. There are so many politics in the Corporate world and I truly don’t miss it either.

I think your first point so so important. To stop and pray before acting or reacting. Great post Lincoln Parks.

Totally agree, Dan….and that is the step we are most likely to forget!
