What’s the first thing that you do when your getting ready to start your new Job on a Monday morning? Your ready to meet the new employees and the new Managers and where you are going to begin learning your craft. This is ALL going to be so new. So what’s the first thing you look forward to learning? Its what you are going to be on a daily basis correct? You are EAGER to begin and ready to learn what the BOSS is going to tell you what you need to do for your new position. Your ears are wide open and your palms are sweaty, but you are ready to begin! Its obvious that you are definitely Coachable…
So why is it when you want to start your own business and you do start it, that you are NOT coachable for your own business? Why do you push back and not want to learn from people that give you advice. I’m baffled by the fact that someone would start a business seek a mentor and then proceed not to listen to them? HUH? The reason for this is because most people want change, most of them want something different for their lives, but they are rarely willing to do so. Change is something hard, and being coachable is even more difficult.
Here is your mindset when you have found your DREAM job and you want to impress.
- I need to make an impression on the BOSS immediately. – Everyone’s goal is to make an impression so that they could be in good favor with the person upstairs.
- I need to make sure I follow the RULES – Rules are set for clocking in and clocking out, and you must adhere to those rules at all times or else it could lead to probation.
- Your First 30-90 days is Probation – Your first few months are considered a probationary period and during this time most pepole are doing whatever they can to keep their best foot forward. You have not yet become relaxed in your position.
- You are Coachable – You listen to everything the person mentoring about your position has to say. You take notes dillegently, you make sure that you follow every minute detail meticulously.
So why can’t most people translate these same characteristics for themselves? Its your business, you own it, and whatever you do you promote yourself. You Rise to the top or fall to the bottom. You make your own money and put food on the table with your own sweat equity. Why not work as hard as you can to see it through for YOURSELF? We have been taught to be comfortable in jobs and not look to improve our own situation. Don’t get me wrong, not everyone will become an Entrepreneur and its not for everyone. Someone has to be in the workforce right?
Here is what I challenge my readers to do today. I just started a book called LINCHPIN (Are you Indispensable?) by Seth Godin. Go pick up that book and begin to read it. You will learn some things about yourself and about becoming Indispensable. Then I’d like you to apply those to what you absolutely LOVE doing. Then, in 60 days see how things begin to change for you. Stop holding on to old habbits because they are comfortable. Remember;
If your not Uncomfortable, your NOT Growing!
