Are Leaders discouraged?

Do Leaders get discouraged?

I have to tell a really real story that happened to me not too long ago. This story is not to make you see me as vulnerable but to see that you and I that are Leaders go through things that discourage us, and it’s how you handle those situations that dictate your path along your Leadership Journey.

Where ever you work, what ever you do as a Leader and someone of Influence that you have you will get discouraged at some point, it’s just how you handle those situations. In Nehemiah as he was building the wall in Jerusalem he faced many critics but the first thing he did was fast and pray. Now when my situation arose I want to tell you what I did in that moment.

If anyone knows me personally you know that I go 100% with every ounce in my body with every task, job or opportunity that I do. However at this point I was speaking with a friend at an Organization that I am apart of  and someone was recommended for a position that I felt would have made a great fit. Trust me, I was honestly happy for the person who was suggested for the Leadership position in this Organization but I immediately asked GOD this question. GOD, why am I overlooked for Leadership in this Organization what’s wrong with me? Do I not go 100% with everything I do, and praise you daily?

I seriously was shocked that I asked those questions of GOD, and I immediately started to get upset because I was thinking about what was going on and happening right in front of me. However, GOD spoke to me and said Relax because you know you truly don’t want that, in your heart you are not as passionate as you say you are about that Leadership position. He was right, I was not. So I asked Why GOD? Why? So I said GOD I will praise you with all my heart and just continue to build my Business 100% and go as hard as I can with everything that I do and I began to praise him where I was.

Would you believe that as I was walking to my vehicle and was approached by another Leader that wants to work more closely with my organization and wants me to plug into more of what they are doing as another Leader? I was totally blown away at how fast GOD works. He can do anything as you know and I learned a valuable lesson by this;

  1. Never rush what God has for you – I was trying to force something because I (me) personally wanting something that was not a fit for me, but GOD knows it all.
  2. One Leader / Must lead others Leaders – As a Leader and Influencer that you are, you as a Leader will be Lead by someone else. Then you must go Lead your team effectively. In Nehemiah, he was a Leader, but he also trusted other Leaders in their task to build the wall back, and those Leaders ran their own organizations and tasks. Know where you fit, and go 100%.

I want you to know that I was humbled by this experience, and It’s not my duty to show you how Good or great of a Leader that I am, but to show you that I also fall down and I have ups and downs that I experience. I ask for help, and I trust in GOD. Don’t allow yourself to get bigger than you think you are because you will feel like you can never learn  from others.

Question: Have you had any humbling moments where you lacked trust? What did you do about it?

    I have those moments all the time and it’s usually because of my lack of patience, I’m working on it though :)

      Lack of patience and faith in GOD took me over in that instance. I can’t believe how quickly GOD works when you have faith. Thanks Kimanzi.

    I’ve been their man. Being over looked even though I was giving it my all. It’s hard and very humbling. I have found it’s important to maintain the right attitude though, even though it can be hard. Great post and reminder.

      So you know how hard it is? I had to really humble myself and know that GOD always has the answer. Its easy for us (me) to encourage others but when its happening to you, its a hard pill to swallow. I had to take my own advice. Whew, it was tough. Thanks for understanding Dan, I’m a work in progress everyday.

        It’s very hard and so difficult to trust in God’s plan and not our own.

        Glad you where able to get through it well, or well enough:)
