In this video clip you will see an interview of Marissa Mayer the new CEO of Yahoo Inc. Marissa left Google after 13 years as a VP, and actually one of the first 7 people hired on at Google and the only female engineer at the company. So why did she leave? Was it the challenge to turn around Yahoo? Or was it just time for a new fresh start?
Well my assumption is that it was time for a fresh start and a new challenge for Marissa and there are many people in many professions today that are facing the same decisions. Is where I am at actually for me? While I went to work everyday for the past 15 years, the latter part of my career (the last 2 or 3) have been the most hardest of my career. You know it wasn’t because I wasn’t Technically sound in what I did (some might believe) but the fact that I was told when to wake up, when to take vacation, when I could spend time with my family and there was no consideration for how many hours I worked regardless. It just got kind of old for me…
I know it may sound like I am being ungrateful for what God has blessed me with at the time, but I often think how I was cognitively wired as a human being and why I was put on this earth in the first place, and I served my time where God wanted me and it was time to pull the plug. So that rug was ripped from under me and I fell on a hard surface that work me up. I got up from the fall asking myself, GOD is this a fresh new start?
For some people being employed by someone else is what they thrive to do and it’s where God has them at this point, however for me I know there are great things that will be birthed by what I write and what I share with people. There are some things that I am so frightened to do at this point and I’m not sure how to handle it. However, I do know that I will move swiftly toward where he wants me to be.
We all need a fresh new start and that chapter of my life is now closed, and now I can go work on God’s work. You know, if you watch this Interview with Marissa, she speaks about how not to have your employees Resent work and I felt that I truly did. Honestly it was not because of the company itself, but because of a few people who made it difficult to continue. And guess what? I don’t resent those people at all, they made me grow, they made me more faithful, and they now allowed me to be with my family more. I hope those people do learn however, how to allow their employees to Lead and be lead and not resent work because I know quite a few there that do.
Here is what my Fresh start has for me;
- A renewed spirit for God and his grace.
- A nervous energy of where God will lead me in business.
- Stress free days, knowing God has my back.
- My Business growth
- An optimism that my writing and speaking Career will now begin and thrive.
- Continuous opportunity to speak freely.
Now I am not saying that I did not appreciate Corporate America because I did. I met some great people there and I will miss them, but I know that Bigger things are on the horizon for me, and it was just time for a fresh start.
Question: What have you been dreaming about? What’s holding you back from your fresh start?
