4 Leadership Lesson’s I learned from my father

The lesson’s that you learn as you grow into your own as an adult live with you from childhood through to adulthood. Given that yesterday was fathers day, I wanted to tribute my father with some lessons that he taught me that directly relate to Leadership. I want to be able to pass these lessons onto my daughter so that she will learn the valuable lessons that I learned.

The three valuable lessons that my father taught me were life long lessons that nobody should ever live without. I hope you enjoy them;

  1. Get passionate about what you do -
  2. Have a sense of Urgency -
  3. Always respect authority -
  4. Make sure God Leads -

These lessons are so simple but I always remembered them all my adult life. If you apply any of these principles in your life there is no way you will not win and influence your family, friends and others.

These areas are so important for everyone to know and apply. It sounds like your dad instilled a lot of wisdom into your life.

A father figure taught me the importance of seeking and being close to God.

Dan, the guy was a tyrant but I’m thankful now for what he did.

Your dad sounds like a great man! Its great that he taught you urgency and passion because both are required to keep God first in our lives.

My dad taught me about good work ethics, integrity, compassion, forgiveness and to follow Christ. He also taught me no one is perfect but we follow the one who is!

TC, he lived it and still does and he repeats it often. I guess back in the old days he heard it from his Dad. Those are excellent qualities you heard from your Dad as well. We must be thankful.

We both have a great deal to be thankful for and much to teach our own kids. Christian heritage must live on.

          Amen TC. I agree.

Did he tell you these things all the time or are these things you learned from his example?

    • http://www.lincolnparks.com Lincoln Parks

Tyler, both! The guy got on my nerves as a teenager and young adult. We got into it many times. Don’t think it was all fun and games. I disliked the guy, but now I appreciated the million times he repeated himself when he saw me doing otherwise. If you lived in our household you had no other choice but to listen and comprehend.

a teenager disagreeing with his parents? well now i’ve heard everything!

        • http://www.lincolnparks.com Lincoln Parks

Lol, I wanted to believe I was a poster child.

          • http://undistractedchristian.com/ Tyler Hess

oh, i’m sure you were! but a poster for what? :D

          • http://www.lincolnparks.com Lincoln Parks

            Still figuring that out.

Lincoln, powerful lessons and no surprise you had someone who modeled such behavior for you. You are now passing them on to others, guaranteeing more blessings into your own life.

Thank you Skip. My father definitely left an impression on me and I want to share that message with others. No matter the obstacles I love sharing. I’m learning from you and others daily and I can’t thank you enough for your meaningful messages.

My dad taught me many things.

Like discipline and obedience. He was an effusive enforcer of ‘spare the rod, spoil the child’. We got beatings to last several life times. But i learned that discipline is not a bad thing after all, it can take you places and open great doors.
He taught me to value honesty and truth. Lying to my dad or dressing up the truth was like trying to walk on hot coals – hot on the heels and pain lasted a while. I did not appreciate that no-nonsense living as a child but now i treasure and value these things.

Ngina, its funny how we, really nobody enjoys these lessons growing up. Yet every single time more teens and our children will go through the same phase. Hopefully and prayerfully they return to those lessons as you and I have and many others. Your father sounded like he meant business and it turned out great. Your a woman of God. Thank you for sharing this with us.

      • http://intentionaltoday.com/ Ngina Otiende

Oh yes he meant business..he was often more business than we could handle..lol.

But he was also a man of faith and prayer.

Indeed may the new generation be able to have something to hold on to, however “unglamorous” the learning seasons are. Thank you for sharing and stirring the conversation.
